The community website for the village of
Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, England
An Introduction to Ruddington
As those who live here will testify, there is plenty
to do and see in Ruddington. The village boasts three museums: Ruddington
Framework Knitters Museum unravels the mysteries of that dying art,
Ruddington Village Museum has reconstructed shops from the Edwardian
era, including the oldest surviving fish and chip shop, whilst the Nottingham
Heritage Centre transports you back to the days of steam with rides
on the Great Central Railway. Rushcliffe Country Park is also popular,
whether it be for a lakeside walk, a cycle ride or to let the children
loose on the terrifying looking play equipment. A stroll around the
village centre allows you to appreciate Ruddington's historic buildings
and impressive range of shops, and on your travels you might be tempted
into one of the seven public houses. All these amenities are serving
a population of just 6,500, who must be very cultured and very thirsty!
About the Website
The website has been designed and built by a group
of volunteers who collectively form the Ruddington Information Technology
Association (RITA to her friends). In its early days, the contents of
the site are RITA's ideas as to what residents and visitors will find
useful. No doubt there will be errors and omissions, but we are hoping
that you will let us know what they are and help put things right.

Photographs of the rededication of the graves of Caleb Wood and Robert
Tongue, Ruddington's Rorke's Drift Survivors. The ceremony in Shaw Street
Cemetery was attended by over 500 people, including the Lord Mayor of
Nottingham, the Mayor of Rushcliffe, representatives of the regiment
and descendants of the two soldiers being commemorated. The Band of
the Prince of Wales Division led a procession
from The Green to the cemetery, where a most moving service was held,
concluding with the Last Post, followed by two minutes silence, the
laying of wreaths on the graves and a rifle volley by members of the
