The Mission
Our aim is to take the gospel through monthly services into the Nursing and Residential Homes in Ruddington, and over the last few years we have built the team up to cover Balmore Country House, Orchard House, St.Peters Rest Home and South Manor. The Rainbow Team are overseen and led by Ruddington Baptist Church with helpers drawn from the wider local Christian Community. We are delighted that we have friends from all three Village Churches helping us, and would welcome interest from any Christians that feel they have a heart for working with the elderly. The Services
30 mins.approx. a simple non-denominational service with mainly traditional hymns on CD with large print words for residents (3-6 hymns depending on service), prayers, readings from Scripture and a short talk. We like to allow time before and after the service to chat to the residents, and feel this is a special part of our time together.Comment from Lesley (Team Leader)
It sometimes seems that we tend to concentrate on reaching the young with the gospel message. I don’t think this is a conscious slight on the older generation, just that those in homes are out of sight of the community and so are often forgotten, but surely they need to know the reassurance of God’s love and the promise we have in Jesus Christ, as much as any one else. As a team we feel it is so important that we remind these precious folk that God loves the old and the frail just as much as the younger and able bodied. The words of the Lord in Isaiah 46 v 4 always remind us of that fact-“Even to your old age and grey hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you, I have made you and I will carry you. I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
