Ruddington has clubs and classes covering every area of activity from
amateur dramatics to zoroastrianism. Perhaps not, but with over 80
organisations operating in and around the village there should be
something to suit all ages, interests and levels of activity. If you
can't find a group to match your interests, perhaps you should think
about starting one. Details of how to get your group listed and promoted
via the website are prodded in the contact section.
The organisations and the activities they support are classified
into three broad areas:-
Youth - organisations
providing activities exclusively for young people, whatever their sphere
of activity. This section therefore includes the uniformed organisations
(e.g. Brownies and Cubs), sports clubs which run youth teams and children's
dance classes
Sporting - clubs whose primary purpose is sporting
or requires active participation e.g. Ruddington United Football Club,
Ruddington Badminton Club, Footpath Preservation Group. This section
also includes adult classes which are active in nature e.g. Karate or
Relaxercise
Recreational,
Social & Cultural - covers
everything else. It includes organisations operating, often on a membership
basis, to provide a programme of activities throughout the year e.g.
WI, Footlights. It also includes individuals or institutions running
classes which are cerebral rather than physical e.g. computing, painting.
Voluntary service - is a separate section covering any organisation
which requires adult volunteers to provide services to thirds parties
or the general public, or to raise money for charitable purposes. Some
organisation may therefore have dual listings if, for example, they
run youth activities, but require adult volunteers to operate and supervise
these activities
